The Herbarium of the University of Tokyo ( TI ) was established in 1877. The Herbarium TI presently consists of two sections:
(1) Botanical Gardens, Koishikawa, Graduate School of Science -
Pteridophyta, Gymnospermae and Sympetalae
(2) University Museum (in the main campus of the University of Tokyo: Hongo 7-3-1, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo) -
Monocotyledon and Choripetalae
Visiting:
The herbarium in Botanical Gardens is opened to visitors only professional with scientific reasons to study the collections (Herbarium hours: Monday - Friday, 10 am to 17 pm).
When planning a visiting to the Herbarium, please contact to and make an appointment with the director, Prof. Jin Murata or a curator, Dr. Tetsuo Ohi-Toma. The herbarium is occasionally closed.

Loans:
Loans of specimens, including digital images, are ordinarily made to institutions and not to individuals. The borrowing herbarium has the responsibility for the secure custody and proper return of the specimens. In principle, we do not loan type specimen, but can send its digital image.
Request for loans must be signed by the curator or director of the requesting institution; e-mail loan requests are not acceptable. When you desire the loan of the specimens, please send a official request letter to the director, Prof. Jin Murata.
